About This Villa

Why We Recommend Villa Mango Bliss

The front door is a single arched slab of timber, and behind it the house does something unexpected: the ceiling lifts, curves and keeps going, a sweep of timber veneer with light hidden in its edge that runs the full length of the living volume and out over the pool through a gable of black-framed glass. Fourteen metres of green mosaic water lie along a timber deck below, with banana palms and heliconia packed against the boundary and a rattan egg chair hanging at the shallow end. Berawa’s cafes, its shops and the sand at FINNS are all close enough to reach on foot, which in this stretch of Canggu is the whole argument.

The best seat in the house is at floor level. A lounge upholstered in olive green is sunk into the deck at the pool’s edge around a low round table, so anyone sitting in it has their eyeline just above the water. Behind it the kitchen island carries the sink and a run of pale timber cabinetry under three black pendant shades, and the dining table is a long plank of timber with cane-backed chairs along both sides, set against the glass. A mezzanine gallery with a timber-slat balustrade runs above all of it, which is where people end up with a coffee before anyone else is awake.

Four bedrooms, all en suite, are lined in woven cane panels and pale joinery under a coffered timber ceiling grid; one takes a black four-poster frame against a patterned timber headboard wall, the rest look out to the garden or the pool, and each has a flat-screen television and a wardrobe with its own safe. The bathrooms commit properly to a colour: teal-green square tile across walls and floor, black tapware, glass-block windows throwing patterned light onto the shower floor. Two of them add a bath alongside the shower, and one has a stone basin set on a timber shelf beneath an arched mirror with planting crowding the glass behind.

Cleaning happens every day, and someone comes for the pool and the planting a couple of times a week, so the mosaic stays green rather than grey. Beyond that the concierge does the arranging: a cook for a table of eight, a pool fence for anyone travelling with toddlers, laundry sent out since there is no machine here, and a nanny if the adults want an evening off. Worth knowing before you book cars: the parking area takes one standard car plus motorbikes, so groups arriving in convoy should plan on scooters. Eight sleep here comfortably and two more can be added on single beds.

Villa Mango Bliss reads as one big room with four quiet ones attached: the curved ceiling gathers the kitchen, the table and the sunken lounge into a single space, and the pool takes up the rest. It suits a family or a group of eight who want Berawa on foot and a pool long enough to swim in properly.
