Why We Recommend Villa Alea
Villa Alea is one of those rare Bali properties where traditional craftsmanship meets genuine comfort without pretence. The centrepiece of this Kerobokan retreat is an authentic Javanese Joglo — a centuries-old wooden structure with soaring teak beams and a dramatic peaked roof — repurposed as the main living and dining pavilion. It lends the villa a sense of heritage that no amount of modern design can replicate. In its 4-bedroom configuration (the master bungalow is closed off), the property works beautifully for families or two couples travelling together, with four ensuite bedrooms spread across a double-storey pavilion overlooking a 15-metre infinity pool and surrounding rice field views.
At $360 per night in low season, that works out to just $90 per bedroom — or roughly $45 per person based on double occupancy. Even during peak season at $602 per night ($150 per room), this represents strong value for a fully staffed villa in one of Bali’s most convenient neighbourhoods. Kerobokan sits in the sweet spot between Seminyak’s restaurant scene (10 minutes away) and the laid-back surf culture of Canggu, so you get the best of both worlds without the noise of either.
Our Favourite Features
- The Javanese Joglo living pavilion – An original hand-carved teak structure with towering roof beams, polished grey marble floors, and a chandelier. This open-air pavilion serves as the communal heart of the villa and feels genuinely special, not just another tropical lounge.
- 15-metre infinity pool with rice field backdrop – The pool runs along the edge of a well-maintained tropical garden facing open rice paddies. A shallow section at one end makes it practical for younger children, and six sun loungers line the deck for all-day relaxation.
- Spacious grounds for families – Beyond the pool, a large grassy lawn is bordered by dense tropical planting. Children have genuine room to run around, and the flat lawn can accommodate outdoor dining setups or yoga sessions.
- Daily housekeeping and airport transfer included – A resident team handles cleaning, security, and garden maintenance. The rate also includes airport pickup, which saves roughly $25–35 on a private transfer from Ngurah Rai.
- Private chef service on request – The villa’s cook will prepare Balinese and international dishes at cost plus a modest service fee. This is a real advantage for families who want fresh, home-cooked meals without the hassle of restaurants every night.
Good To Know
- Beach access requires transport – The villa is 3.4 km from the nearest beach (roughly 15 minutes by car or scooter). Kerobokan is an inland neighbourhood, so this is not a beachfront stay. Seminyak Beach and popular beach clubs like Potato Head and Ku De Ta are a short ride away.
- 4-bedroom configuration closes the master suite – In this setup the separate master bungalow is locked off, meaning you lose the standalone suite with its outdoor bathtub and rice field views. All four available bedrooms are in the two-storey pavilion, each with king beds, ensuite bathrooms, and air conditioning.
- Quiet neighbourhood with a 9 PM noise curfew – The villa sits within a secure lane of six private properties. This is ideal for families or anyone wanting peace, but not suitable for group celebrations. No events, parties, or loud music are permitted.
- Cooking is not fully inclusive – While the chef is available, guests pay for ingredients and a service fee. Budget around $15–25 per person for a home-cooked dinner. Alternatively, Seminyak’s restaurant strip is just 10 minutes away with options at every price point.
- Airport is 40 minutes away – Ngurah Rai International Airport is approximately 13 km south. Traffic can extend this to 60–90 minutes during peak hours, so plan accordingly for departure day. The included airport pickup on arrival takes the stress out of navigating unfamiliar roads.
