Villa Baan Arun

Baan Arun means House of the Dawn, and this four-bedroom pool villa on Koh Samui’s northeast coast earns the name. Set on an elevated plot in Bangrak above Cheongmon Bay and the coconut plantations carpeting the hillside, it looks clear across the Gulf of Thailand towards Koh Phangan. The northeast orientation means you wake to some of the island’s finest sunrises, the sky turning amber to pink above the water while the rest of Samui still lies in shadow.

The villa spreads across two buildings linked by tropical gardens thick with bougainvillea and frangipani. The main building holds an open-plan living and dining space under high ceilings, a fully equipped Western kitchen with a breakfast bar for four, and a formal table for eight, its bi-fold doors opening onto a sandstone pool terrace where a kidney-shaped infinity pool seems to spill towards the bay. A natural rock waterfall feeds the pool from behind, and a covered sala with built-in bar shades afternoon drinks, while a gas barbecue and outdoor table seat another eight alfresco.

Two bedrooms in the main building open at pool level, while a separate pavilion places the master suite upstairs and a twin below with its own terrace access. The master is the standout — a king bed facing the bay through floor-to-ceiling glass, a private balcony, and an en-suite with dual vanities, a soaking tub and an outdoor rain shower over the treetops. Bangrak is among Samui’s most convenient corners: the airport about twelve minutes away with transfers included, Fisherman’s Village ten, Chaweng equally close the other way, and Central Festival mall midway between. A resident couple, Khun Mee and Khun Deng, look after the grounds discreetly while a multilingual manager handles the day-to-day.
