The Koh Samui Villa Guide — Areas, Views & Our Picks

By Luxury Dream EscapesJune 19, 20263 min read

Koh Samui does private villas better than almost anywhere in Asia. The island’s hillsides and quieter coasts were built out with holiday homes rather than hotel towers, which means the villa supply runs deep — from two-bedroom hideaways above Coral Cove to fifteen-bedroom estates that host entire weddings. We manage over seventy villas across Samui; this guide is how we help guests choose between them.

How Samui’s Villa Map Works

The island is a rough circle with a ring road, and villa character changes by compass point. The northeast (Choeng Mon, Plai Laem) is polished and close to the airport. The east (Chaweng Noi, Coral Cove, Lamai) stacks villas up hillsides for sea views. The north shore (Bophut, Maenam) is flatter, calmer and most walkable. The south and west are where you go to see nobody at all.

Hillside View Villas — Samui’s Signature

The east coast’s headlands produce the classic Samui photograph: infinity pool, palm canopy, the Gulf shading from jade to navy. Villa Baan seThai above Coral Cove is the archetype — award-winning, five bedrooms, a 50-square-metre pool hanging over the bay. Villa Moonstar and Villa Panorama Summit work the same magic at six and five bedrooms respectively. Hillside means steps and short drives to the beach; the views are the compensation, and they’re considerable.

Walk-to-Beach Villas — North Shore Ease

For families with small children or anyone allergic to driving, Bophut and Maenam put villas on the flat, minutes from the sand. Villa Jasmine is a short stroll from Fisherman’s Village; the Lipa Talay villas on the quiet west coast at Lipa Noi sit right on one of the island’s best swimming beaches — shallow, sandy, sunset-facing.

Estates for Groups and Celebrations

Samui’s big villas are genuinely big. Lime Samui 15 sleeps a small village across fifteen bedrooms; Lime Samui 10 and Villa Suan Kuchamudee are in the same league. These estates come fully staffed — chef, villa manager, housekeeping — and host milestone birthdays and weddings most weeks of high season.

Find Your Size

The fastest way to shortlist is by bedroom count: browse our two-bedroom, three-bedroom, four-bedroom and five-bedroom Samui collections — each villa listed with honest photography and live availability.

What’s Included (and What to Ask For)

Most Samui villas at this level include daily housekeeping and security; many add a private chef who shops at the morning markets and cooks Thai food you’ll measure every future green curry against. Airport transfers, in-villa massage and boat charters to Ang Thong are a request away. Planning the actual holiday? Our Things to Do in Koh Samui guide covers the island beyond the villa gates, and if you’re still torn between islands, read Phuket vs Koh Samui.

Tell us your group size, dates and whether you’re team sea-view or team walk-to-beach — enquire here and we’ll send a Samui shortlist within 24 hours.
