Luxury Villas in Surin

A short, beautiful bay on Phuket's west coast, with hillside villas above the sea and some of the island's most exclusive addresses close by.

Neighbourhood Guide

Why Stay in Surin?

Surin sits on Phuket’s west coast between Kamala to the south and Bang Tao to the north, a compact bay of soft, pale sand backed by casuarina trees and green headlands. It has long been one of the island’s most sought-after addresses. The beach is short enough to feel intimate, the water is a clear turquoise in the dry season, and the hills on either side are dotted with private villas looking straight out to the Andaman Sea.

Just north of Surin, over a rocky point, is Pansea, a small and secluded cove reached by a path over the rocks. To the south, the coastal road between Surin and Kamala climbs past the headland at Laem Singh, where a roadside viewpoint looks down over a hidden cove and the coastline beyond. This stretch of road is known locally as Millionaire’s Mile, for the large private homes set into the cliffs above the sea.

Villas here sit mostly on the hillsides and headlands around the bay, so many have wide sea views and long sunset evenings over the water. The beach itself is a few minutes away, with simple Thai restaurants and cafés in the streets behind it. Surin is calmer than the big resort beaches to the south, but never sleepy: there is enough choice for dinner every night without needing to drive far.

It is also one of the best-placed parts of the west coast. The airport is usually around half an hour away, the restaurants, markets and golf of Bang Tao and Laguna are just to the north, and Kamala and Patong are a short drive south. Couples, families and groups of friends all find it works well, especially those who want a beautiful beach on the doorstep without the bustle of the busier bays.

Practical Info

Planning Your Surin Stay

Best Time to Visit

November to April is the dry season, with calm seas, clear water and the best swimming at Surin and Pansea. December to February is the busiest stretch. From May to October the south-west monsoon brings tropical showers and heavy surf on the west coast, but also greener hillsides and fewer visitors.

Getting There

Surin is on the west coast, usually around 25 to 35 minutes by car from Phuket International Airport. Private transfers are the easiest option for families and groups. Phuket Old Town is around forty minutes to the east, and Patong is a short drive south along the coast.

Getting Around

The streets behind the beach are easy to walk, but most villas are on the hillsides and headlands, so a car, a driver or taxis are the simplest way around. Ride-hailing apps work well for short trips to Bang Tao, Laguna and Kamala. The coastal road south past Laem Singh is narrow and winding, so allow a little extra time.

Where to Eat

Around Surin beach you will find simple Thai restaurants, seafood and relaxed cafés. Bang Tao, ten minutes north, has a much wider choice of international restaurants, along with the Friday evening market at Boat Avenue. Many villas can also arrange a private chef for dinner at home with a view of the sunset.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

In the dry season, roughly November to April, Surin's water is usually calm and clear, and it is lovely for swimming. The beach shelves quite steeply, though, and during the south-west monsoon, roughly May to October, it can have big waves and strong rip currents. Lifeguards put up red flags on rough days, and those flags should always be respected.

Pansea, a small secluded cove, is just north over the rocks, and the Laem Singh viewpoint is on the coastal road south towards Kamala. Bang Tao, with its long beach, the Laguna area and golf, is around ten minutes north, and Kamala is a short drive south. Patong's nightlife is about twenty to twenty-five minutes away when you want it.

Yes, especially in the calm months. The beach is sandy and manageable in size, the area is quiet in the evenings, and the restaurants, shops and family activities of Bang Tao and Kamala are close by. In the monsoon months families with young children usually stick to the villa pool, as the sea can be rough.

Phuket International Airport is north of Surin, and the drive usually takes around 25 to 35 minutes, depending on traffic. Private airport transfers can be arranged for your villa stay.

The dry season from November to April is the most popular time, and villas for Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year book out early, often many months ahead. The green season from May to October brings showers and bigger seas but quieter beaches, and is a good time for longer stays.
