Luxury Villas in Lipa Noi & Nathon
Koh Samui's peaceful west coast, with calm, shallow water, long sunsets over the Ang Thong islands and the island's old capital at Nathon.
Why Stay in Lipa Noi & Nathon?
Lipa Noi lies on Koh Samui’s west coast, a long, palm-fringed beach of soft sand facing out across the sea towards the islands of the Ang Thong Marine Park. It is one of the quietest stretches of coast on Samui, a world away from the busier east side of the island. The water is calm, clear and very shallow, so at low tide the sandbanks stretch far out from the shore, and the beach is often almost empty.
This side of the island is known above all for its sunsets. Every evening the sun drops behind the mainland hills and the scattered islands offshore, turning the sky and the still water gold and pink. The coast here also tends to stay calmer than the east during the main rainy season, when the north-east monsoon brings waves to Chaweng and Lamai.
A little further north is Nathon, Samui’s administrative capital and its main ferry port. Its seafront and the streets behind it still have old wooden shophouses, local markets, simple restaurants and a working harbour, with boats to the mainland at Donsak. Nathon gives a glimpse of everyday island life, and is the place for local supplies and a stroll along the waterfront at sunset.
Villas around Lipa Noi and Nathon include beachfront homes on the quiet sand and hillside properties with sweeping views across the water to Ang Thong. The pace is slow and the setting peaceful, which suits families with young children, couples and anyone who wants space and privacy. Samui International Airport is usually around forty to fifty minutes away, and the car ferry pier at Thong Yang is close by.
Planning Your Lipa Noi & Nathon Stay
Best Time to Visit
Koh Samui's weather differs from Phuket's. January to August is generally the drier part of the year, with February to April the sunniest. The main rainy season arrives around October or November and runs to December, bringing heavy showers, though the west coast is sheltered from the north-east monsoon and its sea usually stays calm.
Getting There
Lipa Noi is on the west coast, usually around forty to fifty minutes by car from Samui International Airport. Private transfers are the easiest option for families and groups. Nathon pier, with passenger ferries to the mainland, is around ten to fifteen minutes away, and the car ferry pier at Thong Yang is close by.
Getting Around
This is a spread-out, rural part of the island, so a car or a driver is the most practical way around. Taxis and ride-hailing apps work but can take longer to arrive on the west coast. The ring road links Lipa Noi with Nathon, the north coast and the south, and is quiet and easy to drive.
Where to Eat
Lipa Noi has a handful of relaxed beachfront restaurants where dinner comes with the sunset, along with simple local seafood kitchens. Nathon has street food, markets and Thai restaurants along its waterfront. For more choice, Bophut and Chaweng are within an hour. Many villas can also arrange a private chef for dinner at home.
