Luxury Villas in Choeng Mon
A sheltered, crescent-shaped bay on Koh Samui's north-east tip, with quiet coves, calm water and the airport just a few minutes away.
Why Stay in Choeng Mon?
Choeng Mon sits on the north-eastern tip of Koh Samui, a gentle crescent of soft white sand framed by wooded headlands. The bay is sheltered and the water shallow and calm for much of the year, which has made it one of the island’s favourite beaches for families and for anyone who prefers a peaceful swim to the busier east coast. Just offshore, the small wooded island of Koh Fan Noi completes the view.
Around the main bay, the coastline breaks into a series of smaller coves and headlands. Tongsai Bay lies just to the east, a secluded inlet with clear water, and to the west the coast runs past Yai Noi and Samrong towards Plai Laem and the Big Buddha. The roads that wind over the headlands between them are lined with tropical gardens and private homes, and the whole area keeps a quiet, residential feel.
Villas here are found both close to the beach and on the hillsides above the bays, where the views look out over the Gulf of Thailand towards Koh Phangan. Many sit in peaceful spots surrounded by greenery, yet the beachfront restaurants of Choeng Mon are only a few minutes away, and the evenings are calm and unhurried.
Choeng Mon is also very well placed. Samui International Airport is usually around ten minutes away, the restaurants and shops of Chaweng are a short drive south, and Fisherman’s Village in Bophut is around fifteen minutes west. It works especially well for families with young children and for couples who want a tranquil bay with everything else close at hand.
Planning Your Choeng Mon Stay
Best Time to Visit
Koh Samui's weather differs from Phuket's. January to August is generally the drier part of the year, with February to April the sunniest and calmest. The main rainy season arrives around October or November and runs to December, bringing heavy showers and windier seas, though sheltered Choeng Mon often stays calmer than the open east coast.
Getting There
Choeng Mon is on the north-east tip of the island, usually around ten to fifteen minutes by car from Samui International Airport. Private transfers are the easiest option for families and groups. Boats to Koh Phangan and Koh Tao leave from the piers at Bangrak and Bophut, a short drive west.
Getting Around
The beach and its restaurants are easy to walk, but villas on the headlands and hillsides are best reached by car. A car with a driver, taxis or ride-hailing apps are the simplest way to reach Chaweng, Bophut and the Big Buddha. The roads over the headlands are narrow and winding, so drive with care.
Where to Eat
Choeng Mon beach has relaxed Thai and seafood restaurants right on the sand, and a few cafés in the lanes behind it. Chaweng, a short drive south, has a much wider choice of international restaurants, and Fisherman's Village in Bophut is ideal for an evening out. Many villas can also arrange a private chef for dinner at home.
