Villa Formentera
Why We Recommend Villa Formentera
Named after the whitewashed Balearic island, Villa Formentera brings a slice of Mediterranean design to central Seminyak — and does it at a price that makes most comparable properties look overcooked. The two-storey villa sits behind high walls on a quiet gang off Jalan Raya Seminyak, just 270 metres from the main strip and roughly 1.2 kilometres from the beach. What catches you first are the twin archways that frame the ground-floor living space, opening the entire front of the building onto a turquoise L-shaped pool and a manicured tropical garden planted with cycads, frangipani, and bird of paradise. A bamboo fence and white coral stone feature wall screen the compound from the neighbours, creating a sense of enclosure that belies the property’s central location. For $273 per night in low season, three bedrooms, three en-suite bathrooms, a private pool, a barbecue, and this level of interior design is genuinely difficult to match in Seminyak.
The open-plan living and dining area sits beneath bamboo-panelled ceilings and flows directly to the pool terrace through those signature arches. A pair of deep rattan sofas flanks a carved timber slab coffee table, dressed in layered ikat and batik cushions, with a collection of woven basket plates on the wall behind. The dining table — a long slab of solid suar wood seating eight — occupies the space between the living room and kitchen, lit by cylindrical perforated pendant lights and set with white rattan bistro chairs and a timber bench. Behind arched timber-shuttered windows, the galley kitchen is well equipped with a gas cooktop, oven, microwave, full-size fridge, and a breakfast bar with three metal stools. The overall aesthetic threads a needle between Ibiza bohemian and Balinese artisan: think whitewash walls, warm timber, woven textures, and the odd piece of tribal art, without ever tipping into clutter.
The three bedrooms each have their own character. The first, with its carved white fretwork headboard panel and hanging Moroccan silver lanterns, has a distinctly North African feel — the king-size bed sits on a raised platform with grey and white ikat textiles, and the en-suite is through an arched doorway with built-in shelving and a vessel basin. The second bedroom leans bohemian, with a macramé wall hanging above the king bed, macramé pendant lights, and an open-plan en-suite featuring a twin-mirror vanity with circular rattan frames and a carved timber log sink. The third bedroom — likely the one most guests will claim first — pairs a large white carved mandala wall panel with indigo ikat throws and cushions, a full-length driftwood-framed mirror, and an en-suite with the same circular rattan mirrors and natural stone basin. All three bathrooms share a consistent material palette of sandstone mosaic walls, walk-in rain showers, round teak-framed porthole windows, and rattan pendant lighting.
Outside, the pool garden doubles as an entertaining space. A stainless steel barbecue sits on the lawn beside a stone stepping-path, poolside sun loungers with teal cushions line the deck, and oversized turquoise ceramic urns punctuate the planting beds. The villa’s location on Gang Bima, a residential lane east of Jalan Raya Seminyak, puts you within a five-minute walk of Bintang Supermarket and a ten-minute walk of the restaurants along Jalan Kayu Aya — Seminyak’s so-called Eat Street, home to Motel Mexicola, Sisterfields, and Bikini. Seminyak Beach is a flat 1.2-kilometre walk or a quick two-minute scooter ride. Daily housekeeping is included, and in-villa massage can be arranged on request.
With its Balearic-inspired arches, individually styled bedrooms, walled pool garden, and a location that puts Seminyak’s dining and shopping within a five-minute walk, Villa Formentera delivers a design-conscious villa experience at a rate that undercuts much of its competition.
