Villa Abakoi
Why We Recommend Villa Abakoi
Villa Abakoi is a six-bedroom property set within 700 square metres of tropical gardens on Jalan Drupadi in central Seminyak, part of the gated Jero complex. The villa is built around a 16-metre mirror pool with overflow, framed by coconut palms, frangipani trees and bougainvillea, and the architecture blends traditional Balinese construction with collected antiques and artwork. Alang-alang thatched roofs top the open-sided living pavilion, old teak floors run throughout, and the furnishings are a mix of rattan sofas, carved Javanese armchairs and designer lighting. A large Ganesha statue greets arrivals at the entrance, setting the tone for a property that feels more like a curated residence than a standard holiday rental.
The bedroom layout works particularly well for families or mixed groups. The master suite sits in its own pavilion with a king bed, walk-in wardrobe and an en-suite bathroom with a deep soaking tub, rain shower and double vanity. Three guest bedrooms have queen beds, one room offers twin singles, and a dedicated bunk room with two double and two single bunks is purpose-built for children. All six bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning, ceiling fans and cable television. The two-storey bedroom pavilion is separate from the main living areas, which means the pool deck, dining table and lounge can be used without disturbing those who have retired for the evening.
Staff are a genuine strength here. A team of eight, including a villa manager, personal butler, chef, housekeeping and night security, operates daily. Breakfast is included each morning, and the in-house chef can prepare Western, Asian and vegetarian menus for lunch and dinner at additional cost. The eight-seater dining table sits under the alang-alang roof overlooking the pool, and a rear walled garden with a lotus pond provides a quieter spot to read or have a morning coffee away from the main entertaining area. A gas barbecue is available for evening cookouts on the pool deck.
Location is central without being noisy. The Jero complex sits on a private lane off Jalan Drupadi, which means you are a short walk from the restaurants and boutiques of Oberoi Road, known locally as Eat Street, yet insulated from street-level traffic. Seminyak Beach is roughly ten minutes on foot. For larger groups, Villa Abakoi can be combined with the neighbouring Villa Tangram through connecting garden gates and shared corridors to form Villa Abagram, a twelve-bedroom estate sleeping up to 28 guests with two pools and two kitchens. This flexibility makes Abakoi equally suited to a family of eight or the anchor booking for a celebration that needs the full compound.
Villa Abakoi delivers something that most Seminyak villas in this bracket do not: genuine character. The collected art, traditional construction and mature tropical gardens create an atmosphere that rewards a longer stay, and the full staffing, central location and compound flexibility make it a practical choice as much as an aesthetic one.
What Makes It Special
Tropical Gardens
The 16-metre mirror pool with overflow sits at the heart of the property, flanked by timber sun loungers and a traditional gazebo that catches afternoon shade from the garden canopy
Spacious Bedrooms
The dedicated children’s bunk room with four beds means families do not need to sacrifice an adult bedroom, and it connects internally to an adjacent guest room for easy supervision
Villa Architecture
The open-sided living pavilion with its alang-alang roof, teak floors and collected artwork feels genuinely atmospheric rather than generically luxurious, with pieces sourced from across Southeast Asia
Tropical Gardens
The rear walled garden with its lotus pond offers a second, quieter outdoor space away from the pool, ideal for reading or morning yoga
Spacious Bedrooms
The ability to open connecting gates to Villa Tangram next door and book the combined twelve-bedroom Abagram estate gives groups the flexibility to scale up without relocating
Before You Book
Villa Location
The villa sleeps up to 14 guests across six bedrooms, though the bunk room is best suited to children rather than adults, so plan bedroom allocation accordingly when booking for larger groups
Dining Options
Daily breakfast is included in the rate and the in-house chef can prepare lunch and dinner from a set menu at additional cost, which most guests find more convenient than dining out every meal
Getting Around
Seminyak Beach is approximately a ten-minute walk from the villa, and the restaurants along Oberoi Road are even closer, so a car is not essential for everyday outings
The antique furniture
The antique furniture and artwork throughout the living areas give the villa its character but also mean it is not a stripped-back minimalist space, something to consider for families with very young toddlers
Pricing
Seasonal rates range from $1,195 per night in low season to $1,871 during peak periods, with 15 per cent tax and service added to all bookings
Villa Layout
If your group outgrows Abakoi, the neighbouring Villa Tangram can be added to create the twelve-bedroom Villa Abagram compound, so it is worth enquiring about combined availability at the time of booking
