Why We Recommend Villa Casis
Sanur is Bali's original beach resort – the place where tourism began on the island in the 1930s – and it remains refreshingly uncommercialised compared to the Seminyak-Canggu strip. Villa Casis captures this authentic character: a proper Balinese compound just 200 metres from a seven-kilometre stretch of calm, reef-protected beach.
We recommend Villa Casis for families with children and guests who want to experience Balinese village life rather than resort-style Bali. The beach here is safe for swimming (no big waves), the cycling paths along the coast are excellent, and you can walk to traditional warungs and temples within minutes.
The Conde Nast Traveler recognition isn't just marketing – this villa genuinely delivers on the promise of quality accommodation in a location that feels like the real Bali.
Our Favourite Features
The location – Sanur's beachfront promenade is one of Bali's best-kept secrets. Rent bikes and cycle for kilometres along the coast, stopping at beach cafes. The sunrise here (Sanur faces east) rivals any in Bali.
Full staffing – 13 staff including 24-hour security means you can relax completely. Daily breakfast is included, and the kitchen team can prepare lunch and dinner from a villa menu.
The beach – Sanur's reef-protected waters are perfect for children and nervous swimmers. At low tide, you can walk out to the reef. Traditional jukung outrigger boats line the shore for fishing trips.
Village atmosphere – Unlike villa compounds isolated from local life, Villa Casis is embedded in the Sanur community. Walk to the morning market, visit the ancient Blanjong temple, or simply wander the quiet lanes.
Good To Know
Best for: Families with young children, couples wanting authentic Bali without the Seminyak crowds, longer stays (weekly rates make this excellent value), guests who prefer sunrise to sunset.
Location context: Sanur is the opposite of Seminyak – quiet streets, traditional character, morning coffee rather than late-night cocktails. The beach has calm waters perfect for swimming and SUP, with the reef creating a natural lagoon. Forbes called it one of the "25 sexiest beaches" – we'd call it one of the most peaceful.
Food recommendations: Massimo for Italian (a Sanur institution), Warung Mak Beng for legendary fried fish (cash only, no menu, just fish), Soul in a Bowl for healthy breakfasts. The night market on Jalan Danau Tamblingan is worth exploring.
Honest note: Sanur isn't for everyone – if you want buzzing beach clubs and late nights, head to Seminyak. But if you want to actually relax, swim safely, and experience Balinese culture, this is the right choice. Many guests who try Sanur once never go back to the south.
