Villa Lux I
Why We Recommend Villa Lux I
Villa Lux I is a designer compound that feels less like a holiday rental and more like walking through the pages of an architecture magazine. Set within a gated cul-de-sac in the heart of Batu Bolong, Canggu, this five-bedroom property sprawls across multiple pavilions and levels, each with its own distinct character. At its centre, an 18-metre swimming pool stretches the length of the estate, flanked by a sunken concrete lounge where you sit at water level surrounded by flickering candles and plump cushions. Overhead, clusters of hand-woven rattan basket lanterns hang from a slatted timber ceiling, casting a warm amber glow that transforms the pool deck into something closer to a high-end cocktail bar than a villa garden. It is a genuinely theatrical space, and one that photographs do not quite do justice.
The interiors reveal just how much thought has gone into every corner. The main dining pavilion rises to double height beneath skylights, dominated by a striking large-scale portrait mural and copper teardrop pendant lamps suspended above a wicker-seated dining table. A curved staircase with concealed LED lighting leads to the upper level. The open-plan kitchen pairs warm teak cabinetry with a white marble island, and the adjacent living area introduces a deep sunken sofa in rich burnt orange arranged around a geometric kilim rug, with floor-to-ceiling glass walls opening directly onto the pool. A separate lounge pavilion features a vaulted ceiling with rattan and black woven pendants, arched niches displaying curated artisan objects, and a second television for quieter evenings.
The five bedrooms each carry their own personality yet share a cohesive palette of coral, terracotta and natural timber. Half-moon solid wood headboards anchor every bed, while hand-pierced Moroccan-style brass pendant lamps provide soft bedside light. The suites are generous, with the executive room spanning a full 100 square metres and opening onto a private terrace with rice field views. En-suite bathrooms are equally impressive: freestanding soaking tubs, coral-washed feature walls, teak double vanities with gold-framed mirrors, and skylights that fill the room with natural light. Several bedrooms also include built-in daybeds with cushions in coordinating blush and tangerine tones, offering a comfortable retreat within the room itself.
Beyond the main pool area, the compound reveals further surprises. A Mediterranean-inspired courtyard features whitewashed arched niches lit by wall sconces, a frangipani tree and a smaller plunge pool, while an upper pavilion under a traditional timber roof offers rice field views through floor-to-ceiling glass. Perhaps most striking is a loft-style entertaining space with polished concrete walls, a sunken teal velvet lounge with concealed lighting, a cocktail bar and a floating concrete staircase. A curved banquette lounge surrounded by indoor palms and a brass-topped coffee table rounds out the social spaces. For a group of friends or an extended family, there is simply no shortage of places to gather or escape.
Villa Lux I delivers the rare combination of show-stopping architecture and genuine walkability. You are moments from Canggu’s best surf breaks, beach clubs and restaurants, yet behind the compound walls the only sound is the gentle rustle of rice fields. Whether you are planning a milestone celebration, a group surf trip or simply want a base that gives your holiday an edge, this is one of the most visually ambitious villas we have encountered in Bali. From $435/night.
