Koi ponds bordered by lotus flowers and stone carvings weave through the grounds, while Villa Gembira keeps its own ten-by-four-metre pool tucked privately behind towering palm fronds — a quieter retreat for those who prefer solitude. The landscaping throughout feels established rather than recently planted, with overgrown greenery and natural stone pathways giving the compound a sense of place that newer developments in the area rarely achieve.

Inside, the architecture is authentically Balinese without being museum-like. Hand-carved wooden furniture, traditional artwork, and open-plan living pavilions frame views of the garden from nearly every seat. All six bedrooms feature king-size beds draped with white mosquito netting, air conditioning, satellite television, and en-suite bathrooms designed in the alfresco Balinese style — outdoor rain showers set among tropical plants and natural river stones. The three master suites add deep soaking bathtubs, creating what guests consistently describe as one of the most memorable bathing experiences of their stay. Jalan Batu Belig has developed into a proper dining neighbourhood in recent years, with restaurants such as Watercress, Strawberry Fields, and Slippery Stone all within easy walking distance. The pool clubs at Cabina Bali and the beanbag-strewn deck at 707 Beach Berm are close by for sundowner drinks, and central Seminyak’s boutiques and beach clubs are a short ten-minute drive away. It is that increasingly rare combination in south Bali: a peaceful residential setting where you can genuinely walk to both the beach and a good dinner.
