Villa Sunsara
Why We Recommend Villa Sunsara
Villa Sunsara is a reminder of what Canggu villas looked like before the concrete-and-glass era, and it wears it well. A long lap pool runs between dense planting towards a thatched alang-alang pavilion, the roofline low and deep-eaved, the whole garden closing in around the water. At night the planting lights up and the pool turns the colour of a lagoon.
Inside, dark hardwood floors run beneath high white ceilings, with a glass dining table under woven pendants and living areas that open completely along one side to the pool. It is a softer, more traditional palette than most new builds nearby — rattan, timber, white cotton and a lot of natural light — and it makes the villa feel considerably calmer than its address suggests.
Four bedrooms carry four-poster beds draped in white netting, each with its own bathroom, one with a freestanding tub set against a planted window. The upper floor looks out over rice fields still working behind the property, a view that is getting harder to find this close to Berawa Beach, the beach clubs and the restaurants a few minutes away.
