Villa Aiimara

Villa Aiimara does something most new Canggu villas do not — it commits to pattern. Encaustic tiles run through every room in ochre, blue and cream, laid edge to edge beneath woven bamboo ceilings, so the floor becomes the loudest thing in an otherwise calm house. The effect is warm and slightly old-world, closer to a family home that has been added to over decades than to the pale minimalism a few doors down.

The living pavilions open along the pool, which runs the length of the plot past a stone water feature and a shaded deck. Inside, rattan armchairs and low timber tables sit under those bamboo ceilings, and the dining room seats the whole group beneath a woven canopy. Up on the roof there is a bar built for the last hour of light, which is where most groups end up before dinner.

Five bedrooms all have their own bathroom, several opening to planted garden showers with freestanding tubs set against the greenery. One is a four-poster draped in white cotton, the rest quieter but finished to the same standard. Echo Beach is a two-minute walk, and the run of cafés, warungs and beach clubs along Batu Bolong starts about five minutes further on — close enough that nobody needs to organise transport for dinner.
