Glasshouse Kandy
Why We Recommend Glasshouse Kandy
Glasshouse Kandy stands on a wooded hillside in Digana, east of Kandy, looking out over the Victoria Reservoir to the Knuckles mountain range. True to its name, walls of glass and sliding doors bring the view into almost every room, and the house sits in a large tropical garden where hornbills and monkeys are regular visitors. Four generous bedrooms make it a fine choice for families or two or three couples who want seclusion, with the Temple of the Tooth and Kandy’s sights within reach.
The infinity pool, about eleven metres long, runs along the front of the house and seems to spill straight into the valley, with a row of loungers on the deck beside it. Evenings bring sunsets over the hills and a softly lit pool, and a shingled gazebo in the garden holds a dining area with barbecue for meals outdoors. A covered terrace with a long table is a favourite spot for breakfast with the reservoir below.
Inside, the open-plan living room sits under a high timber roof, with deep sofas, a breakfast bar with stools, a well-equipped kitchen and a round table for eight. Bookshelves line the walls and a small library corner invites slow afternoons. The four bedrooms, three with king beds and one with a queen, are bright and white-toned with en-suite bathrooms and their own verandahs. A chef, housekeeping, gardener and pool staff look after the house, and breakfast is included.
