The Far Pavilion
Why We Recommend The Far Pavilion
The Far Pavilion is a glass-walled villa perched on a hilltop above the valleys near Pinnawala, inland from Colombo on the road towards Kandy. Inspired by M.M. Kaye’s novel of the same name, it sits on a working farm within a large coconut plantation, surrounded by forest and mountain views. With just two suites for up to four guests, it is a rare, intimate hideaway for couples, two friends travelling together or a small family.
Outside, a lagoon-like infinity pool curves along the hillside with the valley falling away below, edged by poolside loungers and outdoor sofas where the only soundtrack is birdsong. Life on the farm is part of the experience, as guests can press their own organic coconut oil, try their hand at making cheese, milk a cow or ride from the private stables, and the elephants of Pinnawala are close by.
Interiors blend Indian and Western art and furniture, with handmade Persian rugs, antique daybeds, vintage lamps and leather armchairs set against full-length glass. The air-conditioned living pavilion has several sitting areas and quiet corners for tea and a book, and there is a study with an iMac. Both suites have king-size antique four-poster beds, hardwood floors, gilded wallpaper and glass walls over the valley, and the master bathroom has a large soaking tub. Breakfast is included, and the farm team look after guests throughout the stay.
