The Best Restaurants in Uluwatu

By Luxury Dream EscapesJune 24, 20263 min read

Uluwatu’s food scene has quietly become one of Bali’s best — a five-year transformation that took the Bukit from “warungs and one pizza place” to clifftop fine dining, single-origin coffee and some of the island’s most ambitious kitchens. You can still eat grilled fish on Bingin Beach with sand between your toes, and you should. Here’s where we send guests staying in our Bukit villas, meal by meal.

Breakfast and Coffee

The peninsula runs on specialty coffee now. The cafés clustered around Padang Padang and along the Uluwatu main road do smoothie bowls and flat whites to Melbourne standard — most open by 7am to catch the dawn-patrol surf crowd. Closer to Bingin, the lane cafés are smaller and calmer; perfect after an early swim.

Lunch: Warungs Worth Crossing the Peninsula For

The Bukit still does brilliant cheap eats. The nasi campur warungs in Pecatu village serve the real thing — point at what looks good, pay a few dollars, leave happy. For the classic Bukit lunch, descend the Bingin stairs: the beach warungs grill whatever came off the boats that morning and serve it with sambal matah and a cold coconut, metres from the shorebreak.

Golden Hour: Eat Where the Cliffs Face West

Uluwatu invented the sunset dinner and the choice now runs from barefoot to white-tablecloth. The clifftop spots above the surf break do beanbags, woodfired pizza and front-row barrels; the polished newcomers along the Nyang Nyang rim pair tasting menus with hundred-metre drops. In dry season, book anything west-facing at least a day ahead.

Dinner: The Ambitious Kitchens

The Bukit’s serious restaurants now bear comparison with Seminyak’s — open-fire cooking, locally-caught seafood, kitchen gardens on the property. Several of the best sit within ten minutes of our villas around Pecatu and Padang Padang; staying at Villa Jonsu or Yellow Moon puts half this list within a short scooter ride.

Jimbaran’s Fish Grills — The Classic Night Out

Twenty minutes north, Jimbaran Bay’s seafood barbecues remain a Bali rite: pick your snapper, prawns and clams from the ice, then eat them grilled over coconut husks at a candlelit table on the sand while planes descend over the bay. Go at 5.30pm to catch the sunset seating.

Or Stay In: The Villa Chef Move

Here’s the insider play — for groups especially, the best restaurant in Uluwatu is often your own villa. Most of our Bukit properties offer private chefs who’ll shop the morning markets and grill reef fish to order while you watch the sunset from your own pool. It’s most of the restaurant experience at a fraction of the logistics, and after a beach day nobody has to get back in a car. Couples staying in our one-bedroom hideaways tell us a private dinner on the deck beat every reservation they made.

Make a Week of It

Pair this list with our Things to Do in Uluwatu guide and the Uluwatu area guide to plan the full trip.

Staying on the Bukit soon? Tell us your dates — we’ll match you with a villa near the food, and our concierge team books the tables you can’t get.
