Kurokawa Villa

Kurokawa Villa is a striking contemporary home on the outskirts of Kalutara, on Sri Lanka’s west coast, rising in tiers of dark timber, glass and stone above a broad river fringed with jungle. It is secluded and peaceful, yet Kalutara Bodhiya is about 3.2 km away, Kalutara Beach about 3.8 km and Wadduwa Beach about 10 km, making it an easy first or last stop within reach of Colombo. With five king bedrooms for up to ten guests, it suits families and groups who want space, privacy and a team that cooks and cares for them.

The pool is the centrepiece outside, a long stretch of blue facing straight out to the river, with built-in massage loungers on its shallow ledge, set beside a manicured lawn with sun loungers and a garden table right by the water. Timber decks wrap the lower floors with cushioned seating overlooking the pool, and there are covered terraces higher up for a morning coffee above the treetops. The lawn and decks make it easy to spend whole days at home before heading out to the coast.

Inside, the living spaces are modern and sleek, with deep sofas, a long dining table and an open layout that flows out to the terraces, plus a sauna for cooler evenings after a swim. All five bedrooms have king beds, air conditioning and modern en-suite bathrooms, with floor-to-ceiling glass opening onto private balconies over the greenery and river. A staff of four provides daily housekeeping, gardening and 24-hour security, and a chef cooks Sri Lankan and international dishes on request.
