Maharamba House

Maharamba House is a relaxed, modern two-storey home in Talpe, on the south coast just east of Galle, set in a walled tropical garden thick with palms and bamboo. The beaches of Talpe are within easy reach and Galle Fort is a short drive away, so it works equally well for beach days and sightseeing. Three bedrooms for up to seven guests make it a good-value choice for a small family or close friends, and a comfortable base for longer stays.

The private swimming pool runs along a sunny deck framed by palms, with white loungers, a shade umbrella and built-in concrete benches. A white gazebo sits in the garden for shady afternoons, stepping-stone paths wind through the lawn, and the ground-floor veranda has an outdoor dining table and a daybed. Upstairs, a timber-railed balcony with chairs and a desk looks out over the treetops.

Inside, the house mixes polished concrete, green-painted timber windows and local textiles, with a sofa lounge, a second living area with beanbags under the staircase, and a fully equipped kitchen with a breakfast bar. The three air-conditioned bedrooms have double beds under mosquito nets, and the third also has a single bed. One bathroom is open to the sky, with a freestanding bathtub among the plants, and housekeeping is daily.
