Rock Villa
Why We Recommend Rock Villa
Rock Villa is a whitewashed heritage walauwwa in Bentota, on Sri Lanka’s south-west coast, a traditional manor house said to be around 170 years old, set in mature tropical gardens with direct access to the beach. Its terracotta-tiled roofs, long colonnaded verandas and fretwork details have been carefully preserved, while the rooms inside are calm, airy and comfortable. With eight bedrooms for up to sixteen guests and a team of twenty staff, it is a wonderful choice for large families, multi-generational trips and groups of friends taking the whole estate.
Two swimming pools sit within the expansive lawns, including a fifteen-metre pool lined with sunloungers and white umbrellas, and a small pavilion beside the water gives shaded seating while others swim. Frangipani trees scent the garden, and a semi-open veranda with comfortable seating and small tables for two makes a lovely spot for a quiet dinner looking over the greenery. In the evening, soft lighting turns the pools and gardens into a beautifully peaceful setting.
Inside, there are two living rooms, one indoors under a vaulted ceiling with plants, rugs and art, and a second semi-open lounge looking onto the garden, along with long verandas lined with planter’s chairs. The bedrooms range from bright, modern deluxe rooms to traditional superior rooms, two pool suites and two Walauwa suites with four-poster beds draped in white. Breakfast is included, the kitchen cooks lunch and dinner on request, and a dedicated spa room means massages without leaving the house.
