South Point Cottage

South Point Cottage is a two-storey lakefront house on the shore of Koggala Lake, in a quiet village among cinnamon plantations a short tuk-tuk ride from Ahangama and the south coast’s beaches. Water views, birdlife and its own wooden jetty make it a peaceful alternative to the busy beachfront, ideal for couples, families and friends who want nature on the doorstep. Three bedrooms, all with their own bathrooms, make it an easy, relaxed stay.

A small infinity-edge pool looks straight across the lake, with sun loungers on the lawn under tall palms. A private wooden jetty reaches out over the water, perfect for sunset drinks, fishing or a candlelit dinner, and there is a canoe for paddling the lake. Deep verandahs on both floors, with loungers and armchairs, frame the views from morning to evening.

Inside, polished timber floors and antique furniture give the house an old-world charm. The open, window-lined living room upstairs opens onto a balcony over the lake, and the kitchen is fully equipped. One bedroom with a king bed and TV sits upstairs, with a double room and a twin room on the ground floor, each with air conditioning, mosquito nets and an en-suite bathroom. A housekeeper, chef and manager look after you, and meals are cooked to your requests at the cost of groceries.
