Villa South Point
Why We Recommend Villa South Point
Villa South Point is a beachfront home on the quiet Kathaluwa stretch of coast between Koggala and Ahangama, where the garden runs down to the sand and the sea wraps around much of the property. Built in a British and Dutch colonial style and dressed with period furniture, it is a beautiful, unhurried place for families and small groups of friends, with Galle Fort, Unawatuna, a working tea estate and the whale-watching boats of Mirissa all within reach.
The grounds are the star, some six thousand square metres of landscaped tropical garden with palms and mangroves. A twelve-metre pool looks out over the lawn to the ocean, with cushioned wooden loungers set beneath the palms, and a sandy beach lies at the bottom of the garden for morning swims and sunset walks. Tables can be laid on the deck or on the lawn by the water, and the house is softly lit as evening falls.
Indoors, a breezy living room has comfortable sofas and planters’ chairs, and a second living area on the covered terrace keeps the sea in view. There is an indoor dining table for six and an alfresco table for eight on the terrace. The master bedroom has a draped king-size four-poster with period pieces, the Sea Room has two draped queen beds, and both open onto the oceanfront garden, while the Pond Room has a draped king bed opening to a lily pond. All three bathrooms have dual sinks and rain showers. The villa is fully staffed with a personal guest assistant, housekeepers, chefs, a gardener, pool cleaning and security.
