Villa Amed

Villa Amed stands right on the sand on Sri Lanka’s south coast near Weligama, one of a small row of contemporary beachfront villas facing the Indian Ocean, with palms leaning over a wide beach and the surf rolling in just beyond the terrace. It is a striking two-storey home with a dark, moody palette and clean modern lines, and with four king suites for up to eight guests it suits families and groups of friends who want a stylish beach base for surfing, whale watching from Mirissa and day trips to Galle Fort.

The terrace opens straight onto the beach, with a private infinity pool whose edge lines up with the sea and sunbeds shaded by umbrellas. A thatched cabana on the sand makes a lovely spot for lazy afternoons, and the outdoor dining table on the deck is set up for long lunches with the waves in view. Step off the terrace and you are on the shoreline, ready for a sunset walk along the sand.

Inside, large glass doors open the living and dining rooms onto the pool deck and the ocean, with plush sofas, deep armchairs, local artwork and a long dining table. There is a fully equipped kitchen, a sauna and a dedicated chef service, and breakfast is included each day along with housekeeping. All four bedrooms have king beds, polished dark floors, air conditioning and en-suite bathrooms with freestanding bathtubs and rainfall showers, and some open onto private balconies or patios with sea views.
