Villa Disa 3 sits high on the hillside at the northern end of Patong, within L’Orchidee, a gated estate of around two dozen private villas. From up here Patong Bay spreads out below in a wide sweep of turquoise water, sand and green headlands, and after dark the town’s lights glitter all the way along the shore. It is an easy, comfortable choice for families and groups of friends who want a calm, elevated retreat with Patong Beach, its restaurants, markets and shops roughly ten minutes away on foot.

The pool is the showpiece: a deep blue infinity pool running beneath a carved stone wall, where water spouts tumble into the water and stone elephants stand guard at the edge, all facing out over the bay. A garden with sun loungers wraps around it, and a covered sala holds a round teak dining table and loungers, perfect for long breakfasts and for watching the sun sink into the Andaman Sea. There is also a barbecue and a teppanyaki grill for cooking outdoors.

Indoors, a lofty open-plan space with polished timber ceilings and cream walls flows from a lounge of deep leather sofas and armchairs into a dining room seating eight and a modern kitchen with an island counter. Two master suites on the lower floor have king beds, sea views and jacuzzi bathtubs, and one opens onto its own private terrace. A twin room and a bunk room, ideal for children, complete the four, each with its own bathroom. Housekeeping and security look after the villa, and a chef can cook on request.
