Villa The Petals

Villa The Petals is a colonial-inspired two-bedroom villa in the green countryside outside Galle, set in mature gardens of tamarind and mango trees that look out over paddy fields. It is small, private and quietly stylish, a place where past guests admit they barely left the grounds, and it suits couples or a small family who want peace and wildlife, with Galle Fort and the beaches around Unawatuna within easy reach by car.

The garden is the heart of the place, with a ten-metre pool edged by lawn and views across the fields, sun loungers under umbrellas, a wooden swing and hammocks strung between the trees. Peacocks, monitor lizards and plenty of birds wander through, and an outdoor dining table makes the most of breakfasts in the open air. After dark, lanterns light the trees and the pool glows against the garden.

Inside, off-white interiors, airy verandas and a covered terrace with deep sofas keep the mood calm, and shelves of books invite long, unhurried afternoons. The rustic dining area overlooks the pool, and the kitchen is fully equipped. Both bedrooms have four-poster king beds with mosquito nets, air conditioning and en-suite bathrooms. The resident staff look after housekeeping and security, and a cook prepares meals on request.
