Domo Villa 2

Domo Villa 2 is the sister property to Domo Villa 1, sharing the same walled compound a short walk from Ubud’s Monkey Forest and the restaurants that line the road down to it. Where the two differ is in the detail, and Domo 2 is the one to choose if the appeal of a holiday is a long soak and a slow morning. Its master bathroom has a freestanding tub set against marble-look tile, with a built-in shower seat alongside — a small, unglamorous piece of design that makes an enormous difference to older guests or anyone who would rather sit than stand.

Outside, a private pool runs beside a paved terrace with sun loungers, a broad umbrella and a hanging egg chair suspended in the corner, which is where most guests end up at some point in the afternoon. The living room behind is enclosed and air-conditioned, opening to the water through sliding glass, with a deep sofa, a Smart TV, board games and a guitar. The open kitchen and dining area are laid out for shared cooking, and the whole villa sits on a single level with international sockets throughout.

Three bedrooms are arranged around the garden. The master takes a king bed in a beautifully made timber frame with matching nightstands, framed by sliding doors onto the pool; a second offers a second double; the third has two single beds, which is the configuration that quietly solves things for families with children or friends sharing. Every room is air-conditioned and en-suite, with a rain shower in each and that tub in the master. The villa can also be booked as a two-bedroom if your group is smaller.
