Enso 4

The entrance to Enso 4 is a single black numeral on a white pier, a timber-framed door beside it, and behind that a walled garden with a lap pool running its full length. Bingin Beach is a couple of minutes down the road — the surf, the warungs on the sand, the cliff steps — but you would not guess it from inside these walls. At ground level the villa looks entirely inward: curved plaster, pale stone floors and glass, with pandanus and heliconia planted tight against the boundary and a white sun platform set at the water’s edge.

Step through the door and the ground floor opens into one double-height room. Glazing runs floor to ceiling along the pool side, a mezzanine window looks down from the upper landing, and a deep tufted sofa and low ottoman sit beneath a wall-mounted television. Pale timber joinery lines the kitchen along one wall — marble at the splashback, an induction hob, appliances hidden behind flush doors — and a round stone dining table with softly rounded chairs sits where the light is best in the afternoon. A curved plaster stair, a piece of sculpture in its own right, climbs out of the corner of the room.

The ground-floor bedroom is the one the architects clearly enjoyed most: a slot of skylight above the bed draws daylight down the plaster wall through the day, and full-height glass brings the planting right up to the bedhead. Upstairs, the second bedroom takes a wide picture window over the green canopy and a full wall of timber wardrobes. Each has its own bathroom in pale stone with brass tapware — one pairing twin basins with a freestanding stone bath and a separate walk-in shower, the other tucked beneath a skylight of its own. There is an outdoor shower fitted into the garden wall by the pool.

Then there is the roof. A short flight from the upper landing brings you out onto a terrace with built-in banquettes down both sides and raised planters along the edges, and a view that clears the Bingin treeline to the ocean. It is the best seat in the villa at six in the evening. Staff clean daily, the concierge team will organise an airport transfer, a car and driver, breakfast, an in-villa massage or a babysitter, and anything you might walk out for — The Cashew Tree, Mensa, El Kabron — sits a couple of minutes away.

Enso 4 suits two couples or a small family who want to be in the middle of Bingin without giving up quiet. Spend the mornings on the sand, the middle of the day in the pool, and every last hour of light up on the roof with the ocean out past the trees.
