The Africa House
Why We Recommend The Africa House
Zebra-print rugs, hammered copper lanterns and a soaring thatched roof set the tone the moment you walk into The Africa House, a characterful Seminyak villa that trades sleek minimalism for antiques, teak, leather and pebbled stone. Three round, thatched bedroom bungalows and an open-air living pavilion are scattered through a dense tropical garden, linked by stepping-stone paths and wrapped around a curving turquoise pool. It is an ideal fit for a family or three couples who want genuine Balinese texture with a playful safari twist.
Days revolve around the water. The freeform pool has a wide shallow ledge for lounging, sunbeds and a deep daybed line the deck, and a thatched dining bale sits right at the edge, so long lunches drift straight back into the pool. The main pavilion is entirely open to the garden, with a big lounge around a low coffee table and a kitchen island with stools for slow breakfasts. Each bedroom is its own little hideaway under a high thatched ceiling, with a canopy bed draped in netting, air conditioning and an open-air bathroom walled in river pebbles, where showering beneath the sky becomes a highlight of the stay.
Behind the gate everything feels hushed and leafy, yet this is a prime pocket of Seminyak, with cafés, boutiques and restaurants a short stroll away and the beach within walking distance for sunset. A resident team looks after housekeeping, the garden, the pool and round-the-clock security, and meals, massages, a driver or a babysitter can be arranged whenever you want them.
