Villa Dedalu

Frangipani trees lean over a thirteen-metre pool at Villa Dedalu, dropping blossoms onto a lawn crossed by stone stepping-pads, while low white bungalows with terracotta roofs sit around the edge like a little hamlet. It is a single-level, whitewashed home in Umalas, the leafy residential pocket between Seminyak and Canggu, and it has the relaxed, sun-faded charm of a family house that has been loved for years.

The interiors lean shabby chic: weathered timber, carved antique cabinets, rattan lamps and patterned tiles against white walls and high pitched ceilings. A semi-open living room with deep mustard sofas looks straight out over the water, the kitchen has a counter for quick breakfasts, and a poolside bale with a long cushioned lounge makes the obvious spot for lazy afternoons. Dinner can be eaten indoors or out on the terrace beneath the trees.

Each of the four bedrooms has its own bathroom and opens towards the pool, several with garden showers half-open to the sky and soaking tubs. An on-site team keeps everything in order, a cook can prepare meals, and the cafés of Umalas are close by, with Seminyak’s restaurants and boutiques only around ten minutes away and the Canggu surf an easy ride north.
