Villa Desa Roro Dua is one of those Canggu hideaways that genuinely surprised us. Tucked down a quiet lane in the rice field belt between Berawa and Pererenan, it feels far removed from the bustle — yet you’re only a ten-minute scooter ride to Echo Beach or the cafes along Batu Bolong.
The centrepiece of this two-bedroom retreat is a traditional Javanese Joglo living pavilion with soaring teak ceilings and carved timber columns. We have seen plenty of villas that claim the Joglo style but cut corners — this one is the real thing, with antique teak beams, handwoven rugs, and furniture that has genuine character rather than catalogue uniformity. Floor-to-ceiling glass doors fold open so the living space flows straight out to the 12-metre pool and garden, which is exactly how life in Canggu should work.
Why We Recommend Desa Roro Dua
We recommend this villa for couples or small families who want a slower pace without sacrificing quality. The two bedrooms are proper suites — king-size canopy beds, air conditioning, walk-in rain showers — and they open onto shaded verandas where morning coffee becomes a ritual. There is also a small office nook in the living area, which is a practical touch if you are working remotely and want to keep an eye on kids in the pool.
Our Favourite Features
- The Joglo pavilion at golden hour — the warm teak glows and it feels like stepping back in time
- A 12-metre pool that is actually long enough for laps, rare for a two-bedroom villa
- Part of the larger Desa Roro Estate, so you can book the adjoining villa for a bigger group and still have your own private space
- The garden is lush and mature, not the sparse landscaping you sometimes get with newer builds
- Genuinely peaceful setting — birdsong over traffic noise
Good To Know
- The location is semi-rural Canggu, so you will want a scooter or driver for restaurants and beaches — it is not a walking neighbourhood
- No ocean view, but that is the trade-off for this level of quiet and garden space at this price point
- Great value from $304/night for a villa of this quality and character
- If your group is larger, ask about combining with the main Desa Roro villa next door
For a quiet, authentic Bali experience with genuine Javanese architecture and a private pool, Desa Roro Dua is hard to beat at this price.
