Villa Firefly
Why We Recommend Villa Firefly
Some Koh Samui villas have the views, others the staff, a handful get the design right — Villa Firefly, perched on Bophut Hill with the whole northeast coastline below, manages all three, and adds a detail that sets it apart. Its 16-metre infinity pool is enclosed on every side by a full-height glass safety barrier, making it one of very few private pools on the island where young children can play at the water’s edge without a parent at arm’s length. That single feature won Firefly the 2023 Haute Grandeur Global Award for Best Family Villa in Asia, and it remains among the strongest reasons we recommend it to travelling families.
The villa is a three-storey contemporary residence by an award-winning Hong Kong architect, recently renovated to a standard that shows in every room. Five king suites — each with walk-in wardrobe, rain-shower en-suite and a deep terrazzo tub with polished steel fixtures — spread across the upper floors with panoramic windows to Bophut Bay and Koh Phangan. Digital mood lighting runs through the living spaces, and the open ground floor — granite-topped kitchen, wine chiller, semi-circular breakfast bar flowing to a teak table for twelve — is built around fold-back glass doors that open the whole room to the pool terrace, where a waterfall, water features and a sculptural cactus garden frame the outlook.
Three full-time staff are on hand daily, led by a manager fluent in English, French, Thai and Chinese — a real advantage for international groups. Continental breakfast is served each morning at no extra charge, a private chef cooks lunch or dinner on request, and complimentary return airport transfers are included. The gated hilltop compound keeps complete privacy without sacrificing access: Fisherman’s Village and its walking-street market are five to seven minutes by car, Chaweng Beach under twenty, the airport a straightforward twenty-three. At the pool’s far end, a covered entertainment sala seats ten-plus with surround sound, a bar fridge and two cooktops, purpose-built for long evenings that never move indoors.
