Villa Kalyana

Villa Kalyana is less a villa than a private beachfront resort: a seven-thousand-square-metre estate on the shore at Bang Kao, on Samui’s peaceful south coast, made up of pavilions, two-storey houses and individual bungalows set in more than five thousand square metres of tropical garden. Coconut palms shade the lawns, hammocks swing between the trees, and the beach is just beyond the garden edge. It is one of very few places on the island where a really large group can stay together without anyone feeling squeezed.

The accommodation is arranged in three wings, Lotus, Orchid and Garden, each with its own swimming pool, so the estate never feels crowded. One pool winds through the lawns with in-water loungers and shallow shelves for children, another is a long twenty-metre pool for proper swimming, and a third sits among the Garden Wing houses. Thai-style salas, sun decks and lounging terraces are scattered throughout, and a garden sauna with a river-rock bathtub and an in-house spa room add an indulgent touch.

The main living pavilion is a dramatic double-height space open to the garden, with carved timber details, plush sofas and a long dining room alongside. There are three living rooms, two kitchens, a media room with a projector and big screen, and a billiard room for rainy afternoons. Breakfast is included, a team of seventeen staff runs the estate with a chef on hand, and baby cots, car seats and stair gates make it surprisingly easy for families with little ones.
