Villa Malabar

Villa Malabar is a sleek, contemporary beach house set right on the sand at Bang Kao, on the calm southern coast of Koh Samui, a short stroll from the golden chedi at Laem Sor. Crisp white walls, dark timber ceilings and wall-to-wall glass frame the sea from almost everywhere, and a broad green lawn runs from the house straight down to the beach. It is a wonderfully easy place for a big family or group of friends to spread out and slow down.

The star of the show is a twenty-two-metre rim-flow pool laid along the lawn, its far edge seeming to spill into the bay, with a shallow section where younger children can splash safely. A shaded timber sala beside the water is the spot for afternoon naps and keeping an eye on the swimmers, and beyond the lawn the beach is perfect for shoreline walks at sunrise. As evening falls the whole villa glows softly against the darkening sea.

Inside, one huge open pavilion holds the lounge and a long dining table, with doors that slide away to let the breeze through. The modern kitchen has a large island for coffee and snacks, there is a second living room for quieter moments, and a small gym for anyone keeping up their routine. Five serene king suites are joined by two children’s rooms, breakfast is included each day, and the team handles daily housekeeping, with a chef available for lunch and dinner.
