Villa Lea Besar

In the leafy, easy-going neighbourhood of Umalas, between Seminyak and Canggu, Villa Lea Besar is a light-filled family retreat set in a generous, lush tropical garden. A soaring thatched pavilion looks out over a curving twelve-metre pool and a broad lawn, and the cafes and restaurants of Umalas are within walking distance of the gate.

The open living pavilion is breezy and relaxed, with timber furniture, a smart TV and streaming for film nights, board games and video games for rainy afternoons, and a casual breakfast bar beside the fully equipped kitchen. A long dining table seats the whole group. The five bedrooms are spread across two buildings: three in one, including an interconnecting pair that suits parents with young children, and two in a separate, more private wing. Each is air-conditioned, with garden views and its own en-suite, several with open-air rain showers or a bathtub framed by bamboo.

Outside, the pool is lined with sun loungers and shaded day beds, a thatched Balinese gazebo hides in a quiet corner of the garden, and there is plenty of lawn for children to run around. Daily housekeeping, security, a gardener and pool maintenance keep everything in order, and refreshments greet you on arrival. The beach is a short drive away, as are the restaurants of Seminyak and the surf of Canggu.
