Villa Lily Pod

Villa Lily Pod is a contemporary five-bedroom villa on the shore of Bolgoda Lake near Panadura, south of Colombo on Sri Lanka’s west coast, where wide timber decks and tall glass doors look out over calm water and thick tropical greenery. It is close enough to the capital for an easy first or last night on the island, yet feels a world away, and with room for up to twelve guests it is a natural choice for extended families and groups of friends.

Outdoors, an infinity-edge pool spills towards the lake, with a shaded pavilion beside it and lush planting all around. A vast wooden deck wraps the house with sofas, lounge chairs and an alfresco dining table, and a lakeside pier is the place for a sundowner as the light fades over the water. A boat can be hired for trips out on the lake.

Inside, bold wooden accents, local artwork and fine furnishings fill the open-plan living and dining spaces, which flow out to the deck through wide doors framing the lake. The five bedrooms are generously sized, with air conditioning, en-suite bathrooms and doors opening to the greenery, two with king beds and three with twin singles. A chef and discreet housekeeping look after the house, breakfast is included, and there are toys on hand for younger guests.
