Villa Nelayan

A carved Javanese doorway opens onto lawns, frangipani and a traditional fishing boat resting in the garden, a nod to the villa’s name and to Nelayan Beach, only about 300 metres down the road. Set across generous grounds in Canggu, Villa Nelayan is a classic Balinese estate of thatched-style pavilions and tropical planting, made for families and friends who want space, shade and the surf close at hand.

The centrepiece is a 25-metre T-shaped pool, long enough for proper laps, with a shallow wading section for children and sun decks under umbrellas along its edge. Beside it, an open-sided living pavilion holds a sofa lounge, a long timber dining table and a full kitchen, with air conditioning for the hottest afternoons; there is a home cinema set-up for film nights too. Wooden stairs climb to an open-air upper terrace with a billiard table and views out over the surrounding greenery.

The bedrooms sit in their own separate buildings around the garden, each with a canopied bed, glass doors to the pool or lawn and a marble bathroom with rain shower and bathtub, so everyone gets a private retreat. Breakfast is included, a team of six keeps the house running, and a chef, massages and drivers can be arranged. Echo Beach, Tanah Lot and the cafés and beach clubs of Canggu are all nearby, with Seminyak around 20 minutes by car.
