Villa Sasih Karo

Villa Sasih Karo is the Ubud jungle escape many people imagine before they ever arrive in Bali. Set among rice fields and tall palms in Tegalalang, north of Ubud, it looks out over a valley of dense tropical green, and its long, slender pool stretches through a garden of heliconia and ferns. Through ornately carved and painted Balinese doorways, the house reveals a mix of traditional artistry and relaxed modern comfort.

The main level is made for slow days. A long open terrace wraps around the house with deep blue sofas, a dining table set against the treetops and a balcony that catches the valley breeze, while a second, more traditional lounge under a carved timber roof is filled with Balinese art and antique furniture. A well-equipped kitchen sits alongside, and breakfast and afternoon tea are served by the in-house team each day, with a chef on hand to cook lunch and dinner to your menu.

The three en-suite bedrooms are generous, with high ceilings, canopy beds and big windows filled with greenery. The master suite, around 85 square metres, has its own lounge, balcony and a bathroom with tub and shower, and the second room also has a lounge and balcony. There is a dedicated spa room for massages, and the scenery, the food and the warmth of the staff are what guests remember most.
