Villa Spice
Why We Recommend Villa Spice
Villa Spice is the largest and newest of three properties at Lime Samui Estate, a hillside enclave set within an old coconut plantation on Koh Samui’s quiet west coast. Designed by GFAB Architects, it spans 485 square metres across five levels, each stepping down the hill to frame panoramas over the Gulf of Thailand, the Ang Thong National Marine Park and, on clear days, the Thai mainland. The architecture is contemporary tropical at its most considered — monochrome terrazzo, textured wood and pale lime-hued Balinese stone, a restrained palette that lets the landscape do the talking, floor-to-ceiling glass folding back to dissolve inside and out effortlessly.
The five bedrooms spread across the levels for genuine separation. The crowning suite is a double-height master with wraparound terrace, freestanding tub and an attached mezzanine office that can serve as a sixth sleeping space, while a dedicated children’s bedroom — two large beds with attached bunks, a custom bathroom with height-adjusted fixtures, its own terrace — sets Spice apart from most luxury rentals. The remaining suites add king or queen beds and indoor-outdoor rain showers, sleeping up to sixteen in all.
Daily life revolves around the 20-metre infinity pool and its white-terraced deck above the coastline, with a 60s-inspired sunken lounge off the living area for atmospheric evening drinks and a dining room centred on a twelve-seat table carved from a single piece of acacia. The resident Thai chef cooks in a discreet staff kitchen so the main kitchen stays free, continental breakfast, airport transfers, unlimited utilities and twice-weekly linen are all included, and a private cinema for fourteen, a Life Fitness gym, a spa area, kayaks and mountain bikes round out the amenities. The standout is the Infinity Lawn — a flat, manicured terrace with unobstructed sunset views that doubles as a wedding or event venue — and sister villas Splash and Zest sit on the same estate for larger groups.
