Villa Teresa 2 sits in Nelayan, an old fishing village on the Canggu coast, where a slow river curls past the garden and the ocean is only a couple of minutes’ walk away. It is a romantic, deeply Balinese hideaway: thatched alang-alang roofs, lily ponds, handcrafted teak and canopied beds, all wrapped in a garden so green it feels far removed from the cafés and surf breaks just along the shore.

Life revolves around a twelve-metre pool edged with a stone sun deck and loungers, with a curtained, thatched gazebo beside the water for afternoon naps or an in-villa massage. The open-plan living room, dining area and stainless-steel kitchen look straight out over the garden and pool, and as evening falls the lanterns come on and the whole space turns warm and intimate. Breakfast is included, and the team can cook lunch and dinner at the cost of the groceries.

Two air-conditioned bedrooms share a thatched bungalow: a master with a canopied king bed and a guest room with twin beds, each with its own bathroom and bathtub. Sunset walks start at the garden gate, Echo Beach and its beach clubs are a few minutes up the coast, and guests have complimentary access to Finns Recreation Club. For a larger group, the villa can be booked with its three-bedroom sister, Villa Teresa 3, to make a five-bedroom estate.
