Akasha Berawa Retreat
Why We Recommend Akasha Berawa Retreat
This unit carries the piece of craft that sets it apart from its three neighbours: a carved stone relief panel let into the living room wall, a row of standing figures worked into the surface in the Balinese tradition and lit from the side so the relief reads properly. In a compound built from raw concrete and glass, it is the one deliberately hand-made thing.
Where the other units face their courtyards, this one turns inward. The plan is arranged around that relief wall, with a long banquette built along its base and the dining table set square to it, so the carving sits at the centre of the room rather than off to one side. Brass fittings pick up the warmth of the stone in the galley kitchen behind.
The bedroom sits behind the living space with the same timber ceiling and its own bathroom, where a soaking tub is set beneath a full-height window into the greenery. It is a one-bedroom villa with the material weight of a much larger house, a short walk from Berawa’s beach, cafés and boutiques.
