Cohiba Sea View Villa 8 sits high on a hillside in the gated Cohiba estate above Layan, looking west over green valleys and forest to the Andaman Sea. From the pool deck, the living room and most of the bedrooms, the view runs all the way to the horizon, and in the evening the sun drops straight into the sea in front of you. It is a calm, contemporary home for two families or a group of up to eight who want quiet and space, with Layan Beach, Bang Tao and the Laguna golf course a short drive down the hill.

The twelve-metre infinity pool is the heart of the villa, with loungers and a big umbrella on a warm stone deck. At one end, a sunken lounge with deep cushioned sofas and draped curtains is the best seat in the house at sunset. Under a pergola of lacy, laser-cut screens there is an outdoor kitchen with a barbecue grill, a stone island with stools and an oval dining table facing the view. Inside, the living room frames the sea through a single wide window beneath a timber-lined ceiling, and a long dining table sits beside a sleek, fully equipped kitchen.

The four bedrooms are restful and pale, with timber floors, soft furnishings and big windows onto the hills and sea. Three have king beds and the fourth has two single beds, ideal for children, and each has its own bathroom and TV. One suite has a timber walk-in wardrobe and a freestanding bathtub. Breakfast is included, housekeeping is daily, and a villa manager is on hand, while a chef can cook dinner and massage, babysitting and a driver can be arranged.
