About This Villa

Why We Recommend Rumah Tirta

The name is written in loose terracotta letters on the white wall by the gate, half hidden by banana leaves, and that hand-made touch sets the tone for the whole house. A carved timber door opens off a short paved path, and inside the walls there is a single joglo-style pavilion under a steep terracotta roof, a square of lawn and a turquoise plunge pool open to the Bukit sky. Rumah Tirta is built for two, a private hideaway in Bingin with the island’s traditional craft in its bones and the clean lines of a contemporary villa in its finishes, and it feels settled and calm from the moment the door closes behind you.

The living pavilion rises to a pitched ceiling of honey-coloured timber, and its tall glass doors open wide so the room and the pool terrace become one space. A built-in daybed piled with olive-green cushions faces a low timber coffee table and a pair of woven lounge chairs, and sheer curtains soften the light without blocking the garden. Along one side a cast-concrete counter forms the kitchenette, with a stove, refrigerator and freezer, a kettle and wine glasses, and open timber shelves stacked with handmade ceramics. A dining table makes breakfast at home easy, and rattan pendant lamps throw a warm glow across the polished floor once the sun drops.

Through an arched doorway the bedroom continues the same palette: rendered walls, timber ceiling, rattan lamps and a tall arched wardrobe panelled in woven cane. The bed is dressed in crisp white linen, the room is air-conditioned with a ceiling fan as well, and a full wall of timber-framed glass looks onto a slim gravel light-well planted with greenery. The ensuite is smooth polished concrete with a walk-in rain shower, black tapware, an arched mirror and a window to the garden, and there is a second shower outdoors against a scalloped white wall beside the pool for rinsing off after the beach.

Daily cleaning is included, the pool and garden are cared for two or three times a week, and bath and pool towels, a safe, high-speed Wi-Fi and a welcome drink are part of every stay. The concierge team can add breakfast at the villa, a private cook, in-villa massage, laundry, airport transfers, a car with driver, scooter hire, surf lessons and day trips. Bingin’s cafés, surf breaks and beach clubs are within easy reach, and Dreamland Beach and New Kuta Golf are both around ten minutes’ drive away, which makes the villa an easy base for the whole of Uluwatu.

Rumah Tirta suits a couple or a solo traveller who wants a quiet place of their own on the Bukit, close enough to Bingin’s surf and cafés to wander out for sunset yet private enough to spend whole afternoons between the daybed and the pool. It is small, characterful and thoughtfully finished, an easy villa to fall into a slow rhythm.
