Villa Djukun

In Villa Djukun’s main bedroom, the headboard is a pane of glass set into the pool wall, so you drift off with turquoise water glowing behind you like an aquarium. It’s the kind of playful detail that runs right through this two-bedroom hideaway on a quiet street in central Seminyak, a five-minute walk from the beach and the area’s cafés, boutiques and restaurants.

The living pavilion is a lovely jumble of character: high timber ceilings, dark polished floors, Indonesian carvings and old photographs of Bali, and furniture made from reclaimed wood that still wears its original paint in faded greens and blues. A long batik-cushioned sofa faces the garden, the dining table sits on a raised platform beside a fully equipped kitchen, and ceiling fans keep the open space breezy. Outside, a lagoon-like pool fills most of the garden, with a shallow sun ledge where loungers stand right in the water beneath palms and flowering plants.

Both bedrooms have king beds, air conditioning and their own bathrooms, one indoors with a walk-in shower, the other partly open to the sky with a deep carved-stone tub. A villa manager and a friendly team look after the house, with night security and arrival transfers from the airport included. Step out for sunset at Seminyak’s beach clubs, an early surf lesson or dinner in town, then come home to a private, green little world of your own.
