Villa Hanua
Why We Recommend Villa Hanua
A paved forecourt leads to a white garden wall, a palm and a small dark plaque reading Villa Hanua. Step through the timber door and the street disappears behind banana leaves and heliconia. The ground floor is one long, bright room: a deep linen sofa wrapped around two round teak tables, a feature wall of rough-cut grey stone holding the TV, woven plates hung like a gallery across the white plaster, and rattan pendants dropping from the ceiling. Full-height black-framed glass runs along the garden side, so the planting is in view wherever you sit.
The kitchen is the warm heart of the house, built in honey-toned timber with a low window for a splashback that frames a strip of green behind the hob. A stone-topped island with three timber stools is where breakfast tends to happen, with an oven, microwave, coffee maker and toaster close at hand. Beyond it a dining table for eight sits under a tall rattan lantern beside the glass. A floating staircase, its treads lit from below and a skylight overhead, climbs to the bedrooms, and the upstairs hallway has its own run of tall windows under a timber ceiling.
All three bedrooms sit beneath pitched ceilings of dark timber boards, which gives them real height and a calm, cabin-like warmth. Each has a large double bed with a bench at its foot, built-in timber wardrobes, an upholstered lounge chair and a desk for a laptop or a journal, and one opens through sliding glass onto a small private balcony. Every bedroom has its own ensuite, and they are the rooms people talk about: a freestanding white stone bath, twin vessel basins beneath arched timber mirrors, walls of hand-laid stone and a walk-in rain shower with a softly lit niche.
Outside, a deep terrace under a ceiling of bamboo battens doubles as a second living room, with a built-in bench, a long live-edge timber table for meals outdoors, and there is an outdoor shower for rinsing off after a swim. The pool runs along the garden, with a shallow tiled shelf where you can lie half in the water, and teak loungers dressed with rolled towels line the deck. After dark the planting is uplit and the whole house glows through its glass. Villa staff clean daily and look after the pool and garden, and the concierge team arranges transfers, car hire and tours.
Villa Hanua suits families and small groups of friends who want a new, carefully finished house with its own pool, three equal bedrooms and baths worth lingering in. Canggu’s cafés, beach clubs and surf are all around ten minutes away, and when the group grows, Villa Ba’an next door makes it twelve.
