Villa Himmapana Terraces Family is a fresh, light-filled home in Himmapana Terraces, a gated collection of seven contemporary villas on the green hills behind Kamala. A great sweeping timber roof curves over walls of glass, and the outlook is all treetops and rolling hills, with Kamala Beach a short ride down the slope. At a little over a hundred and sixty square metres, it is the estate’s compact family home: easy to settle into, simple to run and sized just right for a family of up to six.

The heart of it is the forty-square-metre pool, a broad, sparkling sheet of water right outside the glass doors, with loungers along one side and a sunken outdoor lounge set into the deck beside it. A cushioned rattan nest daybed sits out on the lawn for lazy afternoons, and the terrace is a lovely place for breakfast in the morning sun. Inside, the open-plan living room has a deep grey corner sofa, and the dining table and kitchen island face the pool, so parents can keep an eye on swimmers while lunch comes together.

There are three bedrooms in calm whites and pale oak, with oversized botanical prints on the walls, each with air conditioning, a TV and a desk. The master and a second room have king beds, and the third has two single beds, ideal for children or teenagers. Upstairs, a balcony with rattan armchairs looks out over the trees, and one bathroom has a sculpted freestanding tub. Round-the-clock security watches over the estate, massages and meals can be arranged, and a free shuttle runs down to Kamala Beach throughout the day.
