Villa K2

Villa K2 is a bright, newly finished whitewashed home in Ahangama, the laid-back surf town on Sri Lanka’s south coast, with the beach and the area’s surf breaks and cafés a short hop away. Clean modern lines meet traditional touches such as arched windows and heavy carved timber doors, and coconut palms rise straight up through the courtyard. With three bedrooms for up to six guests, it suits a small family or a group of friends who want surf lessons in the morning and lazy afternoons at home.

The heart of the villa is a turquoise private pool set in a sheltered courtyard of pale gravel and tropical planting, edged with crisp white loungers and built-in seating. The sleeping wing looks straight out over the water, and the whole garden feels private and calm once the gate closes behind you.

Inside, the palette is soft and neutral, with limewashed walls, woven textures and abstract artworks. A long white dining table and a built-in banquette make the dining room an easy place for unhurried meals, and a pantry sits alongside. Two bedrooms have double beds and the third has two singles, all air-conditioned and dressed in crisp white linen. A team of four looks after housekeeping and cooking, breakfast is included, and lunch and dinner are prepared by the cook at the cost of groceries.
