Villa Kapungkur
Why We Recommend Villa Kapungkur
Villa Kapungkur is a small village of antique Javanese houses, rescued, restored and reassembled around a water garden in Jimbaran. Each bedroom has its own timber pavilion, from a carved joglo to a raised gladak with a veranda, and the walls are full of old doors, panelled screens and collected furniture that give the place the feel of a private museum you are allowed to live in. Natural stone, recycled hardwood and deep thatch hold it all together.
At the centre, a fifteen-metre pool with a waterfall runs beneath frangipani and palms, edged with a timber deck and wicker loungers. The main pavilion is an open-sided wantilan under a soaring roof, with a long dining table for ten, a kitchen counter with stools and sofas looking onto the garden, while a separate media pavilion offers air-conditioned cinema nights. Each of the five bedrooms has a king bed, a TV and its own bathroom, several of them open-air with stone tubs set among ferns.
Continental breakfast is included each day, and a villa manager, attendants, gardener and security look after the estate, with a chef, yoga lessons and spa treatments available on request at extra cost. A spa pavilion sits over a pond for in-villa massages, and the lawns suit a morning yoga session. Jimbaran Beach and Garuda Wisnu Kencana are each a few minutes’ drive away, and the surf breaks and clifftop beach clubs of Uluwatu are around twenty minutes to the south.
