About This Villa

Why We Recommend Villa LouLou

Turn off Jalan Bumbak Dauh, step through the timber gate, and the first thing you see is water: a long turquoise pool running the full length of the garden, with the villa on one side and an open timber pavilion on the other. Villa LouLou sits in Umalas, the quiet village of rice paddies and lanes wedged between Seminyak and Canggu, and it has been built for exactly the kind of stay that setting suggests. Lazy mornings by the pool, a ten-minute ride to the beach clubs when you want them, and somewhere calm to come back to.

The ground floor is one generous open space. A sunken lounge with a deep sofa sits under a ceiling fan, the dining table is a single slab of live-edge timber under three rattan pendants, and the kitchen runs off a stone-topped island with woven bar stools. A floating staircase with a black-bar balustrade climbs to the bedrooms, lit by a tall slot window that throws a strip of sun down the wall through the afternoon. Fold the glass doors back and the whole floor becomes part of the terrace, so lunch drifts from the table to the pavilion sofa to the loungers without anyone really deciding to move.

Upstairs are three king bedrooms, each with its own en-suite, air conditioning and a proper desk, and each with full-height windows onto the garden or the balcony. From that balcony the view is the reason people fall for Umalas: pool below, coconut palms and tiled roofs beyond, and a wide sky that does something spectacular around six in the evening. The bathrooms are white and stone with black tapware and rain showers, and one of them opens onto a private pebbled courtyard with a freestanding outdoor tub set among the greenery.

Daily housekeeping and a villa attendant are included, and the staff will shop for groceries and cook a simple breakfast at no charge beyond the cost of what you buy. Beyond that, the management team’s concierge can line up a private Indonesian dinner, in-villa massages, a nanny, a car with or without a driver, surf lessons, temple days and restaurant tables in Seminyak. It is a villa that works as well for a family of six as it does for three couples, and at this size and finish it represents genuinely good value for this part of Bali.

Villa LouLou is the kind of place that quietly reorganises your plans. You arrive intending to be out every day in Seminyak and Canggu, and by the second afternoon you are on the pavilion sofa watching the light move across the pool, wondering whether dinner might just be cooked here instead.
