Villa Morotai

Curtains of trailing vines spill down the front of Villa Morotai, framing a long turquoise pool set into the lawn, and from the upstairs terraces the view opens across Canggu’s rice fields to the sunset. It is a four-bedroom house with real character, all warm timber, brick and woven lamps, and a layout that moves from cosy and enclosed downstairs to open and airy above.

On the ground floor, the main living room is wrapped in glass and anchored by sunken orange sofas, flowing into a dining table and a kitchen with an island for chatting while someone cooks. Outside, sun loungers and parasols line the pool, a hammock hangs among the greenery, a shaded dining table sits beside the water and the barbecue is ready for evening grills. Upstairs, a semi-outdoor lounge under a thatched roof holds a pool table, and a rooftop lounge looks out over the paddies.

The master bedroom is the showpiece, with its own jacuzzi on a terrace facing the rice fields and a bathroom with a freestanding stone tub. From here, Canggu and Berawa’s cafés, restaurants and beach clubs are a quick drive away, with the nearest beach around three kilometres off, so it is easy to head out for the day and come home to a quieter corner.
