Villa Pancaloka

Curved white walls of glass rise two storeys above an infinity pool that seems to spill straight into the treetops: Villa Pancaloka is a striking piece of contemporary architecture on the green hillsides of Jimbaran. From the deck the view runs out over a canopy of tropical foliage towards the horizon, and the whole house is built to frame it, with floor-to-ceiling windows on almost every side.

Downstairs, the open-sided living and dining pavilion flows onto a broad timber deck. A semi-circular sofa wraps around the lounge with a large TV and stereo, a ten-seat dining table looks out over the water, and a sleek open kitchen sits just behind. Sun loungers and a rattan daybed line the free-form pool, while a round white gazebo with its own daybed perches at the end. Beyond lies a second garden with ponds, lawns and a thatched yoga shala, a rare private retreat within the grounds.

The three bedrooms all have air conditioning and en-suite bathrooms. One opens directly onto the pool, while the two upstairs enjoy hill views through walls of glass and step out to their own natural-stone jacuzzi tubs. Breakfast is included each morning, Jimbaran’s beaches and seafood restaurants are a short drive away, and the surf and sands of southern Bali are close at hand.
